Co-Founder & President, Research Division

Mark Bodner

Mark Bodner, Ph.D. is Co-Founder and President of Research at the MIND Research Institute. Dr. Bodner is also a Research faculty member in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Irvine, and a former Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Dr. Bodner received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at UCLA and his Bachelor degrees in both physics and chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. He received a fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health for postdoctoral work in neuroscience and the biobehavioral sciences. His research focus is computational neuroscience and biophysics.

Recent work has focused on specific patterned, neuronal activity during cognitive function and the grammar of that activity in computational models and neurophysiological data. Other work focuses on the application of knot theory and group theory in modeling the structure and function of DNA, and using music as a tool for studying brain function. Dr. Bodner has received several national and international awards including the J.J. Sakuri award, the Ettore Majorana award at the Ettore Majorana School of Subnuclear Physics in Erice, Italy, and the Halliday and Resnick Award in physics for his part in solving the liquid crystal structure particular cholesterol esters linked to cardiovascular disease. He has also been the recipient of a grant from the National Science Foundation for demonstrating the feasibility of elucidating cognitive function in awake behaving primates using optical and infrared imaging. He has over 50 publications and abstracts in physics and neuroscience.
