Math Initiative Program Overview

The non-profit MIND Research Institute has developed the Math Initiatives Program to engage local education agencies and funders to help teachers elevate math achievement in area schools. Local corporations are funding the partnership to meet their ongoing needs for employees at all levels of business, along with community foundations and philanthropists. The collaborative community projects implement MIND’s ST Math® education program in area schools via an application process. In addition to receiving MIND’s award-winning ST Math instructional software, participating schools also receive professional development trainings, software updates, real time reports on student progress for teachers and principals, and an assigned MIND support representative who proactively supports school implementation throughout the year.

Las Vegas Math Initiative

The Greater Las Vegas Math Initiative is a community partnership between MIND Research Institute, community leaders, visionary philanthropists and Clark County School District to help schools and teachers elevate student math skills through MIND’s ST Math instructional software. The Greater Las Vegas Math Initiative represents a 5-year commitment of $3 million in Clark County students.

Nine Clark County schools started using ST Math in 2009/10 as part of the Math Initiative, with grants for software licenses provided by MIND Research Institute and funded through philanthropy. All students and teachers were given access to the ST Math software, which is designed to improve math comprehension and engagement with math.

MIND recently completed a two-year analysis of Clark County schools, comparing sites using ST Math to those without ST Math. Seven schools starting the Math Initiative in 2009 and completing 50% or more of the program were analyzed for two-year progress. Results showed that grades implementing ST Math grew 13.7 percentile points in students meeting or exceeding standards. Comparable schools only grew by 6.6 points. Approximately 34 schools, representing more than 10,000 students, are participating in the Math Initiative
